Utah Jazz point guard Mike Conley says players around the league are feeling confident about the 2019-20 season resuming.
This is pretty surprising to hear given COVID-19 continues to spread across the world.
However, the Jazz star did acknowledge there are several things that need to be worked out before the NBA can resume play:
“We're feeling more and more confident that something could happen to where we are able to play again,” Mike Conley told Eric Walden of the Salt Lake Tribune.
“But there's still so many things that need to be worked out. … We're hopeful. I think all of us are optimistic.”
Conley's Jazz teammates Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell were the first two players in the NBA to test positive for COVID-19. The NBA suspended the season right after Gobert's test results leaked.
Conley, who is playing in his first season with the Jazz, was having a rough go of it before the season was suspended. The lefty was averaging 13.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 41 games for Utah. He was only shooting 40.5 percent from the field.
Despite Conley's struggles, the Jazz were in fourth place in the Western Conference standings. Mitchell and Gobert were leading the Jazz, as both guys made their first All-Star appearances this season. There are rumblings about a feud between the two stars, but Utah is hoping it blows over.
Here's to hoping that the 2019-20 season can be resumed in the summer if the coronavirus dies down. Conley won the NBA HORSE Challenge on Thursday night.
