Kyle Kuzma had a memorable first season with the Washington Wizards following his summer move from the Los Angeles Lakers. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the Wizards with the team missing out on the postseason yet again for the third time in four years.

For his part, though, Kuzma knows that the future is bright in Washington. He acknowledged the team's shortcomings as he reflected on his first five years in the NBA. The 26-year-old then proceeded to making a bold promise to Wizards fans for the future:

“Damn man!! Been in this thing for half a decade already?!?! 😱 wow Dc not what we wanted to accomplish this year but rest assure Rome wasn’t built in a day!!! Time to level up
God flow ♾🏁,” Kuzma wrote in the caption of a recent Instagram post.

The Wizards got off to a hot start this past season. At one point very early in the campaign, they actually had the best record in the East. This led to many fans holding out hope that this could possibly be their year. Unfortunately, a lot of other factors came into play, with perhaps nothing bigger than Bradley Beal's season-ending injury. Ultimately, the Wizards finished with a 35-47 record and a full eight games behind the 10th and final Play-In spot in the conference.

For what it's worth, though, that record would have been good enough for a Play-In spot had the Wizards been playing in the West. Oh, how times have changed. Who would have thought the shift of power between the two conferences would happen this swiftly?

For Kuzma, however, it is clear that he has a lot of unfinished business with the Wizards. He's already flashed his potential this season and with a healthy team next year — and perhaps a few additions here and there — it would not be surprising if this side starts making some noise in the East. As Kuzma said, Rome was not built in a day, and the Wizards are going to keep on building until they reach their goals.
