Five games into the 2021-22 season, the Washington Wizards have D.C. fans spellbound by their stellar play. After defeating the Atlanta Hawks at home, 122-111, the Wizards' record stands at 4-1.
Washington's victory was powered by 20-point performances from four of its players: Bradley Beal, Montrezl Harrell, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Kyle Kuzma. Following the contest, the Wizards forward couldn't help but gush over how the game is being played this season as a result of the NBA's rule change when it comes to foul baiting.

These rule alterations are meant to reduce stoppages and keep the flow of the game as intact as possible. Unfortunately for stars like James Harden and Trae Young, these changes have also affected their play as their ability to draw fouls for more trips to the line has been hampered.
The sample size is small, but the difference is night and day. Last season the Hawks and Brooklyn Nets finished fourth and eighth, respectively, in free-throw attempts per game. So far in 2021-22, Trae Young's squad ranks 29th as Harden and co. are at 23rd. It's safe to assume that these positions will drastically change as players adjust.
As of writing, the Wizards' free-throw attempts per game are tied for third-most in the entire NBA. They're going to need this type of assertiveness throughout the season if they wish to remain competitive.
