The Washington Wizards were one of the biggest surprises and great stories early on in the NBA season. Things have gone sour lately, culminating in a historic collapse Tuesday night. The Wizards had a 35-point lead in the 2nd quarter against the Los Angeles Clippers. Somehow, they found a way to lose that game, making NBA history in the process.

Clippers forward Luke Kennard scored seven points in the final nine seconds.  After Kennard sank a trey to cut the deficit to three points, Kyle Kuzma was called for a 5-second violation. That led to Kennard sinking a three-pointer with 1.9 seconds remaining, but was fouled on the shot. He sank the free throw, and the hearts of Wizards fans everywhere.

It is tied for the second largest comeback in the play-by-play era of the NBA. Only the 1996 Utah Jazz did better, erasing a 36-point deficit against the Denver Nuggets.

The Wizards had built a 66-31 lead with just over a minute remaining in the first half. The Clippers chipped away over the next quarter and change, but still trailed by 17 entering the fourth quarter. Kennard scored 12 of his 25 points in the fourth, leading his team to the unbelievable comeback.

Making the collapse that much more devastating was who was on the floor for the Clippers. Beside Kennard, Isaiah Hartenstein and Brandon Boston Jr. did work for Los Angeles.

Early on, Washington was at the top of the Eastern Conference and even last month, was still grouped in the middle of the pack with a bunch of teams. Following Tuesday's shocking defeat, the Wizards fell to 23-25 and are now 10th in the east.

The performance has left fans losing their minds on Twitter.
