The Washington Wizards announced on Tuesday that rookie Rui Hachimura suffered a groin injury against the Detroit Pistons on Monday and will miss the next five games.

Hachimura has appeared in 25 games this season for the Wizards. He's averaging 13.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists while shooting 48.2 percent from the field, 20.8 percent from beyond the arc and 85.2 percent from the free-throw line.

The Wizards selected Hachimura with the ninth overall pick in the 2019 draft. The 21-year-old played his college ball at Gonzaga and was born in Toyama, Japan.

Washington, after defeating the Pistons on Monday, is 8-17 on the season. The Wizards are in the 12th spot in the Eastern Conference standings. They are 3.5 games back of the Orlando Magic for the 8th and final playoff spot.

All-Star point guard John Wall is expected to miss the entire 2019-20 season recovering from his Achilles tear. Even though star shooting guard Bradley Beal is one of the best players in the NBA, most pundits don't believe the Wizards have enough talent to compete for a playoff spot, even though the back half of the East is pretty bad.

As for Hachimura, he will be re-evaluated when the Wizards return to D.C. from their upcoming road trip.
