The Washington Wizards are in the midst of the most unlikely playoff push in today's NBA, now boasting a 7-5 record since All-Star point guard John Wall went down to a season-ending heel injury. Head coach Scott Brooks is confident this isn't just a run-of-the-mill coincidence, but knows his team is hitting stride at the right time, hoping to make an early push for the playoffs.

A recent win over the Detroit Pistons tied them for ninth place in the Eastern Conference standings, still two games out of playoff contention after having won seven of their last 10 games. But as Brooks noted, it's a start:

“I mean, I definitely like the spirit, and the confident level our team has,” Brooks said before the win over the Pistons, according to David Aldridge of The Athletic.

“…We have a lot of games to make up,” Brooks said. “We’re still behind a lot of games in the playoff chase, but the confidence level our guys have, hopefully that continues to remain at a high level. But Brad is really leading that charge, along with some good, solid veteran play. Jeff Green has been solid, at both ends, and in the locker room. Trevor (Ariza) has come in and made a statement of who he is as a player, and he’s done a good job of helping us, leading our team as well.”

Now at 20-26, the Wizards are in the midst of a five-team battle with the Miami Heat, Charlotte Hornets, Orlando Magic and Pistons for the last two playoff spots.

Since Wall was ruled out for the season, Bradley Beal and Trevor Ariza have led the charge with their scoring, while the inclusion of Thomas Bryant has been a welcome sight for them at both ends of the court.
