Texas football is getting some murky news about one of its top recruiting targets. Five star wide receiver Jaime Ffrench is no longer considering the Longhorns as his top school, per On3. Ffrench is keeping a completely open mind after a visit to Baton Rough and LSU football.
“I don’t have a leader,” Ffrench said, per Sports Illustrated. “LSU changed it, they made it competitive. But those one-two-three schools, everybody is in right now. It’s very back open right now.”
Ffrench is a wide receiver who is a member of the 2025 recruiting class. He is a standout from Jacksonville, Florida. He caught 62 passes for 1,247 yards in the 2023 season, per On3. He also had 14 receiving touchdowns. In his sophomore season, he had 671 receiving yards.
Ffrench is considering Texas, LSU, Miami, Tennessee and Florida State. The receiver is set to reveal his college choice on August 30, per Sports Illustrated. The Longhorns are clearly hoping that they can still land the blue chip recruit.
Texas football fans need not lose hope. While the school isn't the wideout's top choice, the Longhorns are still very much in the mix for the receiver's services. Ffrench is scheduled to visit the Texas football program in June, from the 21-23. Ffrench is one of the best receivers available in the 2025 class. He is ranked as the no. 23 player nationally in the on3 industry ranking.
Texas football heading to a new conference

The 2024 season is a very important one for the Longhorns. Texas football is heading to the SEC for its first year of play. The school joined Oklahoma in leaving the Big 12, after several years as a member. Texas is coming off of a College Football Playoff appearance last year, when it lost to Washington in a national semi-final game. The Longhorns also won the Big 12 conference, in their final year as a member. Texas will be hoping to get back to the CFP, behind quarterbacks Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning.
It won't be easy. The SEC is inarguably the hardest conference in college football. Alabama and Georgia have ruled the league in the last several years, with both schools winning the conference as well as CFP championships. Things are changing, however, as legendary coach Nick Saban retired from Alabama after last season. Texas is still recruiting some of the best players in the country, and the transition from the Big 12 to the SEC should not be as difficult as some believe.
Ffrench's services would surely help the Longhorns in the years moving forward. Texas football plays its first game of the 2024 season on August 31, against Colorado State. The school also has a huge non conference game against Michigan, before playing its first SEC Conference game on September 28 against Mississippi State.
