There are a lot of great rivalries in college football, and Texas football vs. Oklahoma football is certainly one of the best. The Longhorns and Sooners meet up every year at the Cotton Bowl, and the fans enjoy the Texas State Fair outside of the stadium. It is one of the most unique atmospheres in college football, and it's going to be a little bit different next year with Texas and Oklahoma moving to the SEC.

College football in general is going to look a lot different next season because of conference realignment. A lot of teams are making moves to new conferences, and Texas football and Oklahoma football are two of the biggest ones. The Red River Rivalry is now an SEC rivalry.

There some other good rivalries in the SEC as well. The Iron Bowl between Alabama and Auburn is a great one, and so is the Cocktail Party between Florida and Georgia. However, Texas athletic director Del Conte doesn't think that they compare to the Red River Rivalry.

Have you been to the Red River Rivalry yet?” Del Conte said during an appearance on the Paul Finebaum show. “It's ridiculous, it's the greatest thing ever. They may talk about the Cocktail Party and the Iron Bowl. It's nothing like this game at the State Fair. You have 330,000 people outside,” the Longhorns AD continued. “Iron Bowl is awesome, don't get me wrong. At night, it's great. Same with the Cocktail Party. But this game is nuts.”

Paul Finebaum is an SEC guy and he always has been. He was having fun with the conversation and he couldn't believe he was already hearing claims like that from Del Conte.

“The University of Texas is not even an official member of the SEC and he's already throwing shade at the Iron Bowl and the Cocktail Party,” Finebaum said.

Last year was a big one for Texas football as they won the Big 12 title in their last season in the conference. That was the goal for both the Longhorns and the Sooners, and Texas got it done. However, when the two teams met up for the Red River showdown, Oklahoma found a way to get the win.

The Red River Rivalry last season was one of the many terrific games that this rivalry has seen. It was a back and forth game that came down to the final seconds, and the Sooners were able to come out with the win after scoring a late touchdown.

After that game, Oklahoma was undefeated and looked to have an easy path to the Big 12 championship game and potentially a berth into the College Football Playoff. However, the Sooners ended up dropping two games down the stretch that they were expected to win, and they ended up missing the Big 12 title game. Texas won out after losing to Oklahoma, and they ended up making it to the College Football Playoff.

The Red River Rivalry typically has big implications, and that will likely be the case once again this season. Both the Longhorns and Sooners should have good teams, Texas especially, and it is an important moment in the rivalry as it is the first time that both teams are in the SEC. It should be another fantastic matchup.
