Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie sent out a cheeky tweet on Tuesday, noting that he's “coming home.”

The message led some to believe (check out his mentions) that he would be “coming home” to play for his hometown team — à la LeBron James' notice to Cavs fans in 2014. In reality, though, it simply meant that Spencer and the Nets were on their way to play in Los Angeles:

Dinwiddie, who hails from Los Angeles, seemed to be having a bit of fun with his followers. It wasn't long before his gig was up, though.

Dinwiddie is enjoying his best statistical season in the NBA, as his career-high marks across the board can attest. The former second-round pick has made 63 appearances with the Nets in this campaign (48 starts), racking up averages of 20.6 points on 41.5 percent shooting from the field (30.8 percent from beyond the arc), 6.7 assists, and 3.4 rebounds in 31.2 minutes per outing.

In Sunday's 110-107 victory over the Bulls, Dinwiddie posted 24 points and six assists. Though they won, Brooklyn committed a season-high 29 turnovers.

Tuesday night's matchup between the Nets and Lakers is scheduled to tip inside Staples Center at 10:30 p.m. ET. Brooklyn has won three of its last four. The Lakers, who defeated the Bucks and Clippers over the weekend, will be looking to extend their winning streak to five.
