Brooklyn Nets veteran small forward Jared Dudley says the franchise is in the conversation to get star free agents this summer “because they’re winning.”
The Nets are projected to have around $30 million in salary cap space this summer. The franchise has been linked to Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Jimmy Butler.
Dudley says he tells players around the league the Nets have something special brewing.
“It’s more me talking to them,” Dudley told Greg Logan of Newsday. “I’m usually telling them, ‘Man, they just do it the right way here. Taking care of your body, preparing you, being able to live in the city, the facilities. The reason why Brooklyn is in the conversation is because they’re winning.
“I think the whole league knows we play a good brand of basketball, we’ve had a successful year, we’ve improved every year. Coach and GM have new contracts. So, there’s stability. Facility-wise, upcoming team, young talent. It’s really favorable. They’ve done a good enough job to get themselves in the conversation and get meetings and that’s what you want to do.”
The Nets are 39-40 on the season. They are currently in the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
Brooklyn has a much brighter future than the New York Knicks. If the Nets are able to get a star free agent this summer, they could be a serious contender next season in the Eastern Conference.
