Friday  — or Saturday in Japan — was a good day for Kevin Durant. After all, he led Team USA to a win in the gold medal game of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics men’s basketball tournament with a sensational performance against France. He was not the only member of the Brooklyn Nets who got to see his country’s flag raised during the medal ceremonies, though. Patty Mills of Australia also stood on the podium, with his team defeating Luka Doncic and Slovenia in the bronze medal contest.

Here is Durant and Mills having a light moment after the ceremonies, with the latter hilariously looking like someone who had never seen a seven-footer before in his life.

As if the Nets needed additional firepower to their loaded roaster, the team went out and signed Patty Mills to a two-year deal worth $12 million. Mills easily was one of the best players in the Olympics, where he averaged 26.8 points per game and made 4.2 3-pointers on 34% accuracy.

It was actually Durant and the Americans who stopped Mills and company on their tracks, as Team USA defeated Australia in the semifinals.

Mills, who played the last 10 seasons in the NBA with the San Antonio Spurs, will find himself behind Kyrie Irving, James Harden, and perhaps Joe Harris in the pecking order in the Nets’ backcourt, but he’s definitely an asset that gives Brooklyn tremendous insurance and depth.
