There had been some optimism that Kyrie Irving would ultimately get his COVID-19 vaccine because of Kevin Durant, but now there's increasing uncertainty over whether that will actually happen. With the regular season rapidly approaching, the Brooklyn Nets are preparing for the possibility of not having Irving available for home games.
At Nets Media Day, Durant said he wasn't all that worried about the situation. On Wednesday, KD expressed similar optimism, though he admitted he could be too “naive” about it all:
Kevin Durant on Kyrie Irving's absence: "I'm envisioning Kyrie being a part of our team. Maybe I'm just naïve, but that's just how I feel. But everybody here has that confidence in themselves and our group, that if we keep doing it we can do something special.” #Nets #NBA

Before Durant's comments, Irving posted another cryptic tweet on Wednesday:
Be still and know….

There's little point in guessing what Kyrie is talking about, and the Nets are still playing the waiting game when it comes to their star point guard. Andrew Wiggins notably wound up deciding to get his vaccine because of San Francisco's rules, but Irving is still holding out on getting his.

Nets head coach Steve Nash also weighed in on the matter Wednesday:
Nets' certainty in having whole team available when the season starts diminishing with Kyrie Irving absent again.
"As it stands now, no," Steve Nash said. "So we’ll see what happens."

This whole Kyrie Irving thing is a distraction, but the Nets are well-equipped to still succeed even if he doesn't get vaccinated and misses a whole lot of games. That's the luxury of having two other superstars in Durant and James Harden, as well as a number of other notable role players.
Stay tuned as the saga continues.
