The Brooklyn Nets are starting their campaign real soon, but their Kyrie Irving issue still remains unsolved. Kevin Durant spoke out on the matter after Brooklyn's preseason victory against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Via Alex Smith of SNY:
“That’s always tough when guys are in and out of the lineup, especially a starter like Kyrie. I don’t know exactly what the plan is going forward right now,” Durant said. “I’m sure they’re still making decisions. … I’m going to keep playing and keep focusing on what we’re focusing on in the locker room and once that gets figured out, we move forward.
The reality that the Nets would only have Irving for away games gets more and more real by the day. The team at least got some positive news when Kyrie was granted access to their practice facility. The facility was deemed a private venue not covered by city mandates. However, Kevin Durant is adamant that he wants his All-Star guard back in full, and not just for practice.
“At least he can practice, but we want him here for the whole thing. We want him here for games, home games, practices, away games, shootarounds all of it. So, hopefully we figure this thing out.”
The NBA and teams such as the Nets continue to face new challenges in this unprecedented pandemic reality. All we can hope for is to bring the focus back to basketball with off-court matters being resolved before the start of the regular season.
