The Brooklyn Nets were on the road Tuesday night against the Orlando Magic. That means Kyrie Irving was allowed to play, and play he did.

Irving was on fire early, helping the Nets build a massive lead at halftime. In the first half, Irving dropped 41 points on 14-of-19 shooting from the floor. That's a new Nets franchise record for most points in a half. The performance drew the eye of another superstar, Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James.

James took to Twitter to show his appreciation, posting: “Ky stop it man!!! Actually don't (with a bunch of rolling on the floor emojis).”

The Nets led the Magic, 86-56 at halftime. Brooklyn has not needed very much from star Kevin Durant who had 10 points at the break.

The franchise record for most points for an entire game is held by Deron Williams. The former Nets guard dropped 57 points in 2012 against the Charlotte Bobcats.

Recent reports and changes to the COVID rules in New York left many people confused and questioning things. Road teams are allowed to have unvaccinated players play in Brooklyn. Unvaccinated fans are allowed to attend the games in Brooklyn. Irving can even appear, unvaccinated, as a fan in the arena to watch the game, which he did recently. But the Nets superstar still cannot play in home games.

That has put more pressure on him to perform on the road. And perform he's been doing. Irving has taken his game to a new level recently. Last February 26, Irving dropped 38 points in a Nets win in Milwaukee. Then he scored 50 points in Charlotte last Tuesday, as the Nets dropped 132 points.

The rest of the Eastern Conference is likely hoping the COVID-19 mandates stay in effect come playoff time.
