New Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai witnessed firsthand the team's chemistry and camaraderie outside the basketball court, and he was simply amazed by it.

Tsai and the Nets had a small gathering in Shanghai right after the team arrived from the US. Tsai noticed that despite the long flight, the players still had the energy to converse. It was evident that the whole team was comfortable with one another — both the old ones and the new acquisitions.

“The players got in late, so we had an open buffet kind of setting so they could just come in, grab some food and go to sleep,” Tsai said, per Brian Lewis of the New York Post.  “What I observed, the chemistry, the camaraderie around the team is incredible. They’re talking to each other, they seemed comfortable with each other, having fun.

“This is after a long, what, 16-hour flight? I would’ve been, ‘Forget it, I’m going to sleep.’ But they were hanging out. It’s important to have that chemistry, especially this early in the season. We’re more than half a new team. To see them — not just the original players, but the new guys — was [good].”

When the Nets beefed up their roster through the acquisitions of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, analysts quickly tagged them as legitimate contenders. Yet, Tsai's observation shows that the team will not just be bolstered by elite talent. Their chemistry, camaraderie — which seems to be innate — will power them for the long and tough haul ahead.
