The Brooklyn Nets are ceding the head coaching position to former assistant Jacque Vaughn in the interim. But they are expected to conduct a full search after the season.

Plenty of rumors have been thrown around when it comes to the Nets job. It has been reported that Kyrie Irving–who soured on former head coach Kenny Atkinson–prefers Tyronn Lue to be Brooklyn's next head coach.

While Irving and his camp have denied the report, Kyrie has a history of lobbying for familiar faces. Irving reportedly tried to get former Cleveland Cavaliers assistant Phil Handy to join Brooklyn's coaching staff.

Handy is apparently another name to keep an eye on when it comes to the Nets' head coaching vacancy.

Via Brian Lewis of The New York Post:

Handy, who was a developmental coach in Cleveland, is a Lakers assistant now thanks to LeBron James. Irving reportedly tried to get him to Brooklyn last July, and The Post spoke with Handy last week about Irving and the Nets job.

Regardless of Irving's preferences, it seems especially true that Kyrie and Kevin Durant have plenty of say in the decision-making process.

Perhaps that is only fitting. After all, Nets general manager Bobby Marks knew what he was getting into when he brought them both to Brooklyn. He even pursued DeAndre Jordan because Irving and Durant said they wanted to play with the veteran center.

In any case, Marks understands Brooklyn's championship hopes will ultimately rest with Kyrie and KD. As such, the Nets will likely do whatever is most amenable to the wishes their superstars in order to make them feel comfortable.
