Brooklyn Nets point guard Spencer Dinwiddie says the team's NBA Finals process starts “right now” even with superstar small forward Kevin Durant on the shelf.
Durant is widely expected to miss the entire 2019-20 season recovering from his Achilles tear. KD signed a four-year, $164.26 million contract with the Nets as part of a sign-and-trade deal with the Golden State Warriors.
Dinwiddie says if Brooklyn wants to win the championship when Durant comes back in 2020, the preparation has to begin this upcoming season.

The Nets can be a top-four team in the Eastern Conference without Kevin Durant. Kyrie Irving, DeAndre Jordan, Spencer Dinwiddie, Caris LeVert and Jarrett Allen should be able to lead Brooklyn to at least the second round of the playoffs in 2019-20.
When KD comes back, that's when the Nets will become title contenders. Durant is 7-feet and can shoot from anywhere and over anyone. He's not going to be as explosive as he was before the Achilles tear, but it doesn't matter since the two-time Finals MVP can just rely on his insane shooting skills while his athleticism comes back from the Achilles tear.
All eyes are going to be on Irving in 2019-20 to see if he can lead the Nets after what transpired with the All-Star guard in Boston. Luckily for Irving, there won't be championship expectations in Brooklyn until Durant returns.
