The Brooklyn Nets have decided on the future of their young swingman, K.J. McDaniels, and will reportedly decline his team option, which will allow him to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

The development doesn’t come as a surprise as the 24-year-old Clemson product has not been receiving a lot of playing time with the team since he was acquired from the Houston Rockets back in February. McDaniels was part of a deal that landed him in Brooklyn in exchange for cash considerations.

In 20 appearances for the Nets, McDaniels averaged 6.3 points and 2.6 rebounds in only 14.7 minutes per game. With the arrival of D’Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov, the Nets appear to be revamping their roster and may go after some free agents they can bring in to their fold.

After his promising rookie campaign with the Philadelphia 76ers back in the 2014-15 season, McDaniels has struggled to find a good fit that can maximize his potential. Should there be a team that will show interest in signing him, it can be considered his chance to resurrect his career and prove that he belongs in the NBA.
