Each year it seems the NFL Draft becomes more and more of an event and it wasn't any different this year as they set a viewership record for the three-day event. According to the NFL via Pro Football Talk:

According to the league, the average audience for all three days of the draft on ESPN, ABC and NFL Network was 6.1 million viewers. That’s an average viewership at any minute of any point in the draft; the first round topped 11 million viewers while viewership for the third day of the draft was obviously significantly lower.

Last year the number was 5.5 million viewers, so the 6.1 million blows that number away. Part of the increase to the numbers probably had to do with the draft being on ABC, so more households were able to view it. The NFL also announced that they estimate there were 600,000 fans in attendance live at the draft in Nashville. That number is hard to confirm though because tickets weren't required to stand in the street and watch.

From overhead shots of Thursday night, that number might not be too far off because the streets appeared to be packed.

Every year the NFL is trying to up the part at the draft, and next year it probably won't be much different. They are taking the draft to Las Vegas, and that is a town, much like Nashville that knows how to party. Not sure about viewership on the TV, but wouldn't be surprised to see even more people in the streets for next years draft.
