Darren Sproles: Hall of Famer?

You wouldn't typically associate Sproles' name with Canton, but given how interesting his career was as a versatile, do-it-all running back, he may have a case.

When asked by TMZ Sports if he believes he belongs in the Hall of Fame, Sproles had this to say:

“I hope so, but I don’t know. I’ve got to wait and see,” Sproles said. “I feel like I am, but it’s not for me to choose.”

Darren Sproles announced his retirement back in December.

The 36-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Kansas State, was originally selected by the San Diego Chargers in the fourth round (130th pick overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft.

His role was very limited during his rookie campaign, and he missed all of 2006 due to a broken ankle.

It wasn't until 2007 that Sproles finally began to flash his talent, punching in a couple of special teams touchdowns, and in 2008, he rushed for 330 yards and a touchdown while catching 29 passes for 342 yards and five scores. In addition, he scored a kick return touchdown.

Darren Sproles spent the first six years of his career with the Chargers before landing with the New Orleans Saints in 2011, when he totaled 603 yards and a pair of scores on the ground while hauling in 86 receptions for 710 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Waterloo, Ia. native spent the next three seasons with the Saints and then linked up with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2014, where he proceeded to make three straight Pro Bowl appearances due to his all-around excellence.

Between 2017 and 2019, however, Sproles played just 15 games total due to rampant injury issues.
