Starting in 2020, the NFL Playoffs will be expanding. Each conference will get one more team, making that seven teams from each conference for 14 total teams in the NFL:

From now on, only the top seed in each conference (instead of the top two seeds) will get a bye in the first round of the playoffs. Meanwhile, the other six teams from each conference will play in the Wild Card Round, meaning we will get six total games (three on a Saturday and three on a Sunday) during the opening weekend of the NFL Playoffs.

However, since there is only one bye for each conference in the first round, we will still get four games (two from each conference) in the Divisional Round.

Of course, the Championship Round will then be the final two teams from each conference. Finally, the Super Bowl will remain unchanged as well.

This should bring a lot more excitement into those final weeks of the season. With another playoff spot to fight for, more teams should be alive for a playoff spot.

However, there is a bad side to this as well. Some people may feel that it diminishes the accomplishment of making it to the playoffs. The more teams they allow in each year, the less special it feels.

It should be interesting to see how this all plays out. Opinions will change on both sides in the upcoming years as we all get used to it. Let's see how it plays out and enjoy some extra football.
