Kicker Zane Gonzalez is currently out of work in the NFL, the reason for which can be largely attributed to his bad Week 2 performance during a 21-18 Cleveland Browns road loss to the New Orleans Pelicans.

Against the Saints, Gonzalez missed two field goal attempts, including one that would’ve likely sent the game into overtime and gave the chance for the Browns a chance of snapping their then 19-game win streak.

Gonzalez was cut by the Browns the day after. Following his release, however, Gonzalez learned that he played with a groin injury when he made a medical visit in Philadelphia. The diagnosis of his injury led to a lucrative settlement, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

After the Browns released him last month, Gonzalez visited Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia and was diagnosed with the slightly torn groin that led to a recent injury settlement with Cleveland for $35,000, according to a source.

Furthermore, Schefter notes in his report that Gonzalez was told that his injury should have kept him out of the field for multiple weeks. The kicker sustained the injury just before the New Orleans game, but only informed Cleveland’s medical staff about it at the end of the first half.

Zane Gonzalez was selected by the Browns in the seventh round of last year’s NFL Draft.
