Fans who bleed New England Patriots colors have long hoped to see Rob Gronkowski make a return to football. While Gronk is making a return to a more athletic lifestyle, his sights apparently aren't fixed on an NFL comeback.

Gronk's familiar smirk was blasted on WWE on FOX as they reported that his pen is almost ready to sign a contract with the popular sports entertainment brand. This development is something not many fans anticipated seeing, and this must crush the hearts of many Patriots fans — and/or those who simply want to use him for NFL fantasy football purposes.

The 30-year-old former tight end was a fixture throughout his nine-year run with the Patriots. He made 521 catches for 7,861 receiving yards and 79 touchdowns. He was an integral part of the Patriots offense during the team's three Super Bowl runs. His attitude was as big as his talent as he knew that he was an outstanding player. NFL fans outside of New England hated his guts while Patriots Nation loved his approach to the game.

The shock move to professional wrestling could shock some fans, but the decision is virtually a no-brainer for the man himself. He's only a year removed from professional football, so he should still be in relatively good shape. He's more than got the attitude and charisma to thrive in the pro wrestling scene, and he's a huge fan of the WWE. The last thing he'll do is enter such a physically demanding industry for a quick buck.

Moreover, it wouldn't be the first time Gronk entered the wrestling ring. He helped his real-life friend Mojo Rawley win the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 33, and fans loved his stage presence.

Fans are looking forward to seeing how Gronk will be playing in the WWE.
