The Arizona Cardinals are wrapping up a losing season but have more optimism than most people thought they would have at the beginning of the season. Jonathan Gannon turned out to be a decent head coach and Kyler Murray made it back to the field after a devastating injury, leading Arizona to some impressive wins.

After tearing his ACL, it was expected that Murray and the Cardinals would split at some point. The franchise was headed down a shaky path and Murray, who is entering his prime years, seemed like a candidate to be traded that would kickstart the rebuild. While Arizona still has a lot of work to do, No. 1 will remain under center for the foreseeable future.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Cardinals are committing to Murray as their franchise guy, which Gannon confidently said was the case.

Rapaport said that the Cardinals are behind Murray, which he would not have suspected after a tumultuous offseason riddled with injury concerns. “They are moving forward with Kyler Murray as their starting quarterback.” Arizona clearly values the leadership and stability Murray can provide.

(Side note: beginning the segment with “speaking of short people” is absolutely hilarious.)

The Cardinals, as Rapaport noted, will start building around Murray again. There's plenty of work to do, notably with a receiving corp that lacks size. It will likely take a while to get the roster back to playoff contention. But Murray returning to a level of production that fits in line with his other seasons is a solid sign that Arizona can lean on him as the rebuild continues.
