Tom Brady knows the Arizona Cardinals are hoping to get a healthy version of Robert Alford in 2020, but Alford just can't seem to catch a break.

Alford has been ruled out for the 2020 season, an update to initial reports of his injury:

According to the NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Alford had suffered a pectoral injury in one of Arizona's first practices on Sunday.

After the 2018 season concluded, the Cardinals signed Alford to a three-year, $22.5 million deal in free agency. But before he could prove his worth to his new team, Alford sustained a broken leg during training camp last offseason.

As a result, Alford would miss his entire debut season with the Cardinals due to his leg injury. Given that, the last thing that fans of Arizona want to see is Alford suffer another setback before making an appearance in a game.

For those that may remember, Alford was crucial in Atlanta taking a 28-3 lead in Super Bowl 51 versus the New England Patriots. The veteran cornerback would intercept a pass from Tom Brady and would score six points in Atlanta's efforts to defeat the Patriots. Of course, Alford and the Falcons would miraculously lose their double-digit lead and would lose the contest.

In the last season we saw Alford start, he tallied 50 tackles and 11 pass breakups for the Falcons in 2018. Fast forward to now and his status to begin the 2020 season with the Cardinals is uncertain at the moment.

Entering the 2020 season, Alford was expected to compete for a starting job in Arizona's secondary. Besides Patrick Peterson and Byron Murphy, Alford would be competing with Kevin Peterson and Jalen Davis for a starting role. Sadly, until he finds out the severity of his pectoral injury, Alford's chance to contribute for the Cardinals is put on hold.
