The Buffalo Bills have ventured the last few weeks without the services of rookie quarterback Josh Allen due to a nagging elbow injury. Allen has missed four consecutive games, and the Bills went just 1-3 in those games.

However, Allen has made some significant progress in his recovery over the last week, which has now put him on track to be back on the field this upcoming Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars as head coach Sean McDermott indicated Friday morning, according to Michael David Smith of ProFootballTalk.

“Josh Allen will start Sunday as long as he gets through today,” McDermott said.

The return of Allen will allow him to get more valuable experience at the position. In his first six games played this season, he passed for 832 yards with a 54.0 percent completion rate along with two touchdowns and five interceptions. There have been plenty of struggles along the way, but the Bills appear to be willing to venture through these shortcomings with the hope that he will show some much-needed growth.

In his absence, the Bills have gone through a merry-go-round of options at the position with Derek Anderson, Nathan Peterman, and Matt Barkley. Anderson suffered a concussion against the New England Patriots, while Peterman has since been released by the team.

Meanwhile, Barkley received the start last Sunday, helping lead Buffalo past the New York Jets 41-10 behind a solid performance. Barkley completed 15-of-25 passes for 232 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

If Allen does indeed return, this will be a tough challenge as the Jaguars possess one of the league's best defenses. There could be plenty of struggles ahead as he works his way toward helping lead his team to a second straight win. Beyond that, it appears Allen has finally recovered from his injury, and that is good news.
