Since the Buffalo Bills moved up in the first round of this year's draft to take former Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen, the team has remained steadfast in their approach to bringing along the rookie. Head coach Sean McDermott once again made that plan clear on Thursday morning by stating that Allen will continue to work with the third team in order to help progress his development, according to Sal Maiorana of the Democrat and Chronicle.

“To this point, it’s been Nate (Peterman) and A.J. (McCarron) splitting the 1’s and Josh has been with the 3’s,” coach Sean McDermott reiterated Thursday prior to the start of the Bills’ final OTA session of the spring. “It’s a fluid situation. It’s all part of doing what’s best for our football team and for Josh’s development overall. It’s just what’s the right thing to do at the right time. It’s early in our process here; we have a plan and we have to stick with it.”

The Bills are clearly not trying to throw Allen in the fire before he is ready to handle that responsibility. They have already spoken quite highly of his ability on the field, but the team wants to take the right approach with him in order to get the most out of his abilities.

There is no rush to get him in the fold before he is ready to do so, as the team can lean on offseason A.J. McCarron to be the starter to begin the season as Allen gets in more practice time and gets more acquainted to the entire process of being an NFL quarterback. This method allows for him to jump into the starting job when the time is right.

At the same time, there is still plenty of time for him to prove his ability on the practice field and in the preseason to showcase where he is at in his development ahead of the 2018 regular season.
