USC offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury has been one of the biggest names on the coaching market this offseason. Rumors have surfaced that Kingsbury is scheduled to meet with several teams, and it seems the Arizona Cardinals are among the teams with heavy interest. According to Peter Schrager of Fox Sports, the Cardinals have reportedly agreed to make him their next head coach:

Per sources, Kliff Kingsbury is finalizing a deal to become the Head Coach of the Arizona Cardinals.

This is certainly an interesting turn of events for Kingsbury. His firing from Texas Tech after six seasons made headlines due to his reputation as one of the brightest offensive minds in college football. There were rumors about his potential leap to the NFL after that, and he even met with Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay to discuss the possibility of joining his staff for the playoffs. However, he ultimately decided to become the next offensive coordinator for USC.

It is clear that much has changed since Kingsbury decided not to go to Los Angeles. Although he had signed a deal with USC, reports surfaced about his interest in interviewing with a number of NFL teams for their head coaching vacancies. The school initially denied his request to meet with other teams, however, it appears they may have since switched up their stance.

Since Kingsbury has apparently reneged on his previous agreement, he may now have to pay for it. He will need to complete a $150,000 buyout in order to resign from USC. Fortunately, it is safe to assume that the Cardinals will foot the bill for whatever it costs to make him their new head coach.
