Kliff Kingsbury may have his second coaching interview in just as many days. According to reports, Kingsbury — who is, perhaps, best known for his work with his offensive coordinator work at the college level — is headed to Arizona on Tuesday to interview for the Cardinals' head coaching position. He previously interviewed for the head coaching position with the New York Jets, which he completed on Monday.
There has been some talk of Kingsbury being available for open NFL offensive coordinator positions, but he won't be eligible for those until the two head coaching positions he's interviewing for “play out” and and official decisions have been made.
In January of last year, the Cardinals hired head coach Steve Wilks to replace the retiring Bruce Arians. Wilks took his experience as a defensive coordinator with the Carolina Panthers to the role, but was fired after just one season as the head coach.
Kingsbury, meanwhile, has made his mark in the college circuit. He was the head coach of his alma mater, Texas Tech, from 2013 to 2018. Prior to that, he was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Texas A&M Aggies, coaching Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel during the 2012 season. He also previously played football for the New England Patriots (where he was waived after sitting out his first season with an injury). Kingsbury was signed to the practice squad of the New Orleans Saints and later the Denver Broncos, before finally making his NFL on-field debut with the New York Jets in 2005.
