Cam Newton is back with the Carolina Panthers after the two sides agreed to a deal that has the former NFL MVP under center again for the franchise he spent his best years in the pros with. Field Yates of ESPN reveals the major details of Newton's contract with the Panthers, and it's loaded with bonuses that can rack up the quarterback up to $10 million in earnings. Perhaps the most interesting of them all is the $1 million bonus for Newton if he could win Super Bowl MVP this season.

-Signing bonus: $2.25M
-Base salary: $2.25M (guaranteed)
-Per-game roster bonus: $187.5K
-$500K for each playoff win + 50% playtime ($1.5M max)
-$1.5M for a Super Bowl win + 50% play time
-Super Bowl MVP: $1M
Max value: $10M
It goes without saying that Newton's road to triggering that $1 million bonus is littered with challenges. For one, the Panthers are not in great shape. They are currently last in the NFC South with a 4-5 record, having lost five of their last six games. Plus, Newton is clearly not the quarterback he used to be when he led the Panthers to Super Bowl 50 in 2016. Injuries have taken quite a toll on his body, and Carolina is just about to find out what exactly are they going to get from their old friend.
Nevertheless, Newton must be a much better option for the Panthers than Sam Darnold, who's imploded of late and has hit the IR with a shoulder injury.
