Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey couldn't hold back his emotions after suffering a season-ending injury during their Week 12 game against the Miami Dolphins.

On Monday, the Panthers announced that McCaffrey is out for the season due to an ankle injury that showed severe damage. The team placed him on the injured reserve, meaning he won't be able to return for the remaining games of the 2021 campaign.

After the news of his heartbreaking injury went out, McCaffrey took to Instagram to address the fans and share his devastation to the news. The 25-year-old RB has been dealing with injuries for the most part of his career, most recently suffering from a thigh hamstring strain in Week 3 that also put him on the IR list.

“I love playing football and have dedicated my entire life to what I believe to be the greatest sport in the world. Getting healthy and back on the field this season has been my focus everyday from the time I wake up until I go to bed,” McCaffrey wrote.

“I’ve put family, friends, and all other interests on hold so I can fully concentrate my efforts on treatment, training, practicing, studying, preparing, and playing the game I love at the highest level which is why my season coming to an abrupt end today leaves me devastated. I am thankful to everyone who continue to help and support me through this difficult time and promise I will fight with everything I have to return bigger, stronger, faster, and better than ever. #KeepPounding!

Christian McCaffrey's injury is undoubtedly a huge blow to the Panthers, especially as they try to salvage their season in a tight playoff race in the NFC South. While he was a bit limited this season, he had been effective in the games he played in.

Hopefully, though, McCaffrey recovers to 100 percent and returns in 2022 purely healthy and capable of avoiding any serious injury.
