After playing just seven games this season, Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey is done for the remainder of the year. CMC suffered a serious ankle injury in Sunday's 33-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins and an MRI on Monday revealed severe damage, per Panthers.com.

This is certainly a huge blow to the Panthers, who were hoping McCaffrey could stay healthy. He missed most of 202o because of injury as well. Before exiting in Week 12, he had 10 rushes for 35 yards.

In limited time this season, he's been rather effective, rushing for an average of 4.5 yards per carry. Now, rookie Chuba Hubbard will be relied upon to replace CMC in the Panthers' backfield as they look to turn things around in a hurry.

McCaffrey missed the first five games of the year with a hamstring injury and will now miss the remaining five contests of the campaign after their bye week this coming weekend. He tried to work out the ankle against Miami in the second half but clearly, it was far too painful to keep playing. The Panthers are 5-7 right now which puts them at the bottom of the NFC South. Playoff hopes are looking very scarce and without their running back in the fold, it becomes even more difficult.

Best wishes to Christian McCaffrey on his recovery.
