As the season gets closer more and more are starting to talk about Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey and what kind of season he could have.

Former San Francisco 49ers running back Roger Craig was the first player in NFL history to reach 1,000 yards rushing and receiving in the same season in 1985, and he thinks McCaffrey could be the third player ever to do it. The only other player to ever accomplish it was Marshall Faulk who reached the milestone in 1999.

“He will definitely get the 1,000-1,000,” Craig said via ESPN. “It’s in his DNA to make that happen. He’s got the tools. He’s built for it. His day will come.”

Last season McCaffrey was close to reaching the milestone racking up 1,098 rushing yards and 867 receiving yards. Getting the extra 133 yards to complete the milestone will not be easy, but one of the reasons Craig thinks he can get it done is because of the system that McCaffrey plays in. They run a system that throws the ball to the back a lot, and McCaffrey is hard to cover out of the backfield.

“I mean, Gurley, he gets keyed on a lot, and it's tough to key on Christian,” Craig said. “It's really hard because he's so flexible and he runs such good routes.”

The rushing yards shouldn't be the difficult part to get this year, and it will all probably come down to if he and Cam Newton can get on the same page enough to rack up the yards through the air.
