In the wake of news that the Carolina Panthers are shutting down quarterback Cam Newton for the final two games of the regular season due to shoulder issues, Fox Sports analyst Jason Whitlock feels that the Panthers should begin preparing for life after Newton.

Whitlock cites Newton's poor mechanics as a reason for why Carolina should consider moving on, making the point that Newton's shoulder issues began to occur after he threw the ball 22 times in the fourth quarter of the Panthers' Week 7 win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Newton got off to a terrific start this year but has since slumped and is facing heavy criticism as a result. Overall, he has thrown for 3,395 yards, 24 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while completing 67.9 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 94.2.
Oddly enough, Newton's completion percentage is by far the best of his career, and his passer rating is his second-best mark.
Still, the Panthers have lost six straight games after a 6-2 start, and Newton's erratic performances throughout the skid is a big reason why.
Let's also not ignore the fact that this is not the first time Newton has experienced shoulder problems, as he underwent shoulder surgery during the spring of 2017.
Newton, who played his collegiate football at Auburn University, was originally selected by Carolina with the first overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft.
Since then, he has made three Pro Bowls and has been named a First-Team All-Pro once.
The Panthers will play host to the Atlanta Falcons this Sunday.
