The Carolina Panthers have ushered in a new era under center for the 2020 NFL season by replacing Cam Newton with Teddy Bridgewater. regardless, there is still plenty of speculation regarding their potential interest in Utah State quarterback Jordan Love.
Although Bridgewater provides some immediate security, there is still the matter of their long-term future. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Panthers are seriously exploring taking Love in the 2020 NFL Draft:
“Here are a handful of teams that have done serious research on Love and are worth watching: New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers, Washington Redskins, Carolina Panthers and Miami Dolphins. Carolina picks 38th in the second round and could stash a project QB behind Teddy Bridgewater with a move up. But an NFC offensive coordinator says he “would be surprised if he got that far” in the first round.”
Carolina's interest in Love is certainly understandable given his promising skill set. While he may have enjoyed modest production in college, he boasts all the physical tools teams are looking for in a prototypical franchise quarterback. They would be able to take their time with his development while Bridgewater serves as the unquestioned starter amid their current rebuild.
Of course, it remains to be seen whether or not Love will still be available by the time the Panthers are on the board again with the 38th overall pick in the second round. It appears his draft stock continues to fluctuate and there are a number of other teams intrigued by his potential that could take him off their hands.
