Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Vernon Butler apologized for punching Jack Doyle which led to his ejection and also flipping off the fans as he left the field on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.

Butler and Colts guard Mark Glowinski was tied up during a play and it continued after the whistle. It looked like Butler was going to give one more shove to Glowinski but hit the wrong guy, which meant Doyle was the one who was punched.

As he made his way off the field he didn't help his case by flipping off Colts fans who were heckling him from the stands. After the game, Butler was remorseful for his actions saying it's not the type of person that he is.

“It’s not me. It’s not my character,” Butler said, via the team’s website. “I want to apologize to this organization, to my teammates. I’m sorry. I take full responsibility for it. It won’t happen again. . . . I should keep my cool. I’m a better person than that.”

Interim head coach Perry Fewell had no issues with the ejection and said it was something that they would deal with in the coming days.

“It’s not up to our standard,” Fewell said.

There will also probably be a fine coming from the league office. There is a chance the league office or the team could also suspend him for the team's Week 17 showdown against the New Orleans Saints. Butler is set to be a free agent this offseason so we might have seen the last of him in a Panthers jersey.
