Cleveland Browns wide receiver Antonio Callaway has pleaded not guilty to a pair of misdemeanor charges and will fight them in court, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
#Browns WR Antonio Callaway pled not guilty last week to two misdemeanor charges stemming from August traffic stop, his attorney, Kevin Spellacy, tells me. Case headed to Berea municipal court and probably won’t be on docket for weeks. Resolution will take awhile.

The big charge Callaway will fight is to get the marijuana charge dropped, which could result in a suspension if the charges stay on his record.
Spellacy has said they’ll fight the misdemeanor marijuana charge, for which any conviction or plea deal could lead to NFL discipline, and that paperwork resolved Callaway's driver's license issue. Driving with a suspended license is actually the more serious charge under Ohio law

Callaway was stopped on the morning of August 5th, cited for driving with a suspended license and possession of marijuana. Callaway told the police that the car was just shipped from Florida and he wasn't aware of what was in the car.
Spellacy claimed that the suspended license was just an error in paperwork from moving from Florida up to Cleveland.
The Browns have stood behind Callaway in this incident but they need to be careful, because this isn't the first time that he has had a run-in with the law. Callaway is no question a special talent, but his off the field issues at Florida caused him to drop to the Browns in the 4th round.
The Browns are hoping that they don't have another situation like they did with Josh Gordon on their hands. Gordon was suspended because of drug problems more than he saw the field during his time with the Browns.
If Callaway is suspended, it will be another knock on him, and it would get him closer to a long-term suspension like Gordon faced. Callaway's next court date has not been set, but look for it to happen in the next month or two.
