The Cleveland Browns are working on bringing three-time Pro Bowler Jadeveon Clowney back into the fold. The team is reportedly working on re-signing the 29-year old defensive end, per Brandon Little. Cleveland is interested in a reunion with wide receiver Jarvis Landry as well.
But Clowney is the top priority at the moment. There is already a significant amount of excitement surrounding the team following the Deshaun Watson trade, so adding another star would only enhance the discussion around the Browns moving forward.
Clowney played in 14 games during the 2021 campaign in his first year in Cleveland. He finished with the second-highest sack total of his career with 9.0 while also totaling 37 combined tackles and 24 solo tackles. Additionally, he also forced two fumbles for good measure. Clowney’s career-high sack total came back in 2017 during his time in Houston when he finished with 9.5.
The other interesting note is that he and Deshaun Watson were teammates during the 2017-2018 seasons in Houston with the Texans. It is possible that Clowney’s interest in returning to Cleveland increased following the Watson deal given the duo’s previous relationship.
The Browns had a top-tier defense in 2021 that was led by their elite defensive line and Myles Garrett. Having Garrett and Clowney on either side of D-Line is nothing short of a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks.
This deal is still in the works and nothing is official yet. However, the Browns are doing everything in their power to bring Clowney back, and it seems as if the interest is mutual.
