The Cleveland Browns have only had five games with Kareem Hunt, but he has proven enough during the time that the team should look at resigning him long term.
Before we get into why the Browns should resign him. let's look at some reasons why people might think bringing him back is a bad idea. There are no excuses for what Hunt did in a Cleveland hotel when he was shown on video kicking and shoving a woman.
Charges were never filed but he was still in the wrong during this situation. Part of a punishment is earning a second chance and now that Hunt has served his suspension, he has done everything he can with his second chance.
Hunt said when the Browns signed him he was going to do everything in his power to earn everyone's trust, and he has done a good job of doing that.
“I told him, ‘You can trust me.' I've got to earn his trust, and I've got to earn everybody's trust in the whole organization,” Hunt said via the Cleveland Browns team website. “I'm not willing to mess that up.”
“The only way is my actions,” Hunt said. “Just going to take it day-by-day. I’ve got to earn people’s trust back and my actions are going to show.”
There are some who will never forgive him for what he has done off the field, but his actions have proven that he is a changed man.
On the field, he is a true talent that can be an elite one-two punch alongside Nick Chubb. Hunt has said he will do anything to help the team, and he has done exactly that.
So far this season Hunt has rushed 34 times for 153 yards and two touchdowns. He has also caught 22 passes for 158 yards and a touchdown.
Going forward, he can be a great asset to the Browns, but the big question surrounding Hunt is how much money is he going to be offered this offseason.
Hunt has the talent of one of the best running backs in the league. Don't forget back in 2017 Hunt had 1.782 yards from scrimmage. If it wasn't for the off the field issues he would probably be paid as one of the highest in the league.
The off-the-field issues could keep his price low and if that's the case the Browns need to bring him back. If the Browns can get Hunt for a cheap price, they need to sign him to a long term contract.
