Each year during the draft process, the Dallas Cowboys draw a significant amount of attention toward every early-round selection the team possesses. This notion isn't any different this time around with the focus being on adding more wide receiver help in wake of the team deciding to part ways with former Pro Bowler Dez Bryant.
Although the team had decided to take former Boise State linebacker Leighton Vander Esch with the 19th overall pick in the first round this chatter has continued to remain. According to Mike Fisher of CBS 247 Sports, the Cowboys are leaning toward taking former SMU standout wide receiver Courtland Sutton with the 5oth overall pick in the second round.
If #Cowboys pick at 50, I'm told SMU's Courtland Sutton is their top-ranked receiver. @Schultz_Report thinking along same lines, FYI

Dallas may have brought aboard veteran wideouts in Allen Hurns and Deonte Thompson via free agency, it doesn't take away the need to add a promising young talent. There is a massive void left by Bryant's departure in the passing game and that could only be made larger with Pro Bowl tight end Jason Witten seriously contemplating retirement.
All of this could push the Cowboys to head in that direction with their second-round pick. During the pre-draft process, Sutton had expressed significant interest in being taken by Dallas with one of their early selections. He was one of several wide receivers that the team had brought in for a workout alongside Oklahoma State’s James Washington, Texas A&M’s Christian Kirk, Oklahoma State’s Marcell Ateman, Florida’s Antonio Callaway, Northern Iowa’s Daurice Fountain and Missouri State’s Malik Earl.
Each of these players is still on the board as the second round will commence on Friday night for the front office to choose from in either the second or third round. Sutton is coming off a strong 2017 campaign where he made 68 catches for 1,085 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. He has a big frame at 6-foot-3 and 218 pounds that have lent well to him making catches in traffic as well as possessing strong hands. All of this could see Sutton land in Dallas if he is still available when the Cowboys are on the clock on Friday night.
