It is no secret that the Dallas Cowboys are nearing the end of the Jason Witten era. The veteran tight end has been a staple in the Cowboys franchise ever since he arrived prior to the 2003 NFL season.
That said, it will be strange to see Dallas take the field without #82. However, fans may very well get to see him on the gridiron in a different manner. According to Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News, offensive coordinator Scott Linehan thinks Witten would make a terrific coach:

It’s about gaining their respect and pushing them. And also knowing there are times you got to put your arm around somebody and get their attention and get their confidence back sometimes.”
Not only has Witten been the team's most consistent performer for more than a decade now, but he has also been its devoted leader and team captain. Furthermore, he remains the gold standard of how a professional athlete should conduct themselves on and off the field.
For what it is worth, considering the 15-year veteran still has yet to miss a game this season, it is safe to assume that health will not be a factor in his future decision. For now, Witten is focused on the Cowboys' last run at a potential playoff berth.
