Dallas Cowboys second-string quarterback Andy Dalton remains in concussion protocol, which means third-stringer Ben DiNucci could start again in Week 9 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Cowboys star QB Dak Prescott, of course, is out for the season.

“Andy hasn’t officially cleared the protocol,” head coach Mike McCarthy said on Monday, via Pro Football Talk.

“Once we make it through that, we’ll announce it to you.”

The Cowboys lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 8. They are now 2-6 on the season and in third place in the NFC East standings.

Against the Eagles, DiNucci went 21-of-40 for 180 yards on Sunday Night Football. He didn't throw a touchdown and fumbled the ball twice.

Dalton is 0-2 as a starter since taking over for Prescott. The former Cincinnati Bengals signal-caller has thrown one touchdown and three picks on the season for the Cowboys, who are currently a walking disaster without Dak.

Whether it's Andy Dalton or Ben DiNucci at quarterback, Dallas is likely going to get blown out by the Steelers in Week 9. Pittsburgh is the only undefeated team in the NFL right now and playing solid football on both sides of the ball.

Dallas ranked third in the league in scoring with Prescott under center. Since Dak got hurt against the New York Giants, the Cowboys have scored a total of 22 points.

All signs point toward Jerry Jones' group missing the playoffs this season. Neither Dalton nor DiNucci is good enough at QB and the Cowboys' defense is arguably the worst in the NFL.
