Currently on the Dallas Cowboys, defensive lineman David Irving began his career playing for Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs. With the talented player moving on to Dallas, it has given the coach time to reflect on the player. After doing that, he is incredibly happy David Irving has found success.
“I’m happy for him,” Reid said, via the Dallas Morning News’ Jon Machota. “”I’m pulling for him every week except this week. He’s a good kid. He did a nice job when he was here. We didn’t want to lose him, obviously, but the Cowboys did a nice job of taking him, and now he’s in great hands with [Cowboys defensive coordinator] Rod Marinelli. Nobody is better than [Marinelli].”
That's pretty neat, if we are being honest. Andy Reid was asked the question, so he had to say something, but he didn't need to praise anyone on the Cowboys as strongly as he did. A rather classy move.
The Chiefs signed Irving as an undrafted free agent in 2015. The road to success for Irving has been as long as it was unexpected.
In only three games this season, Irving has already tallied five sacks.
On Sunday, it will likely be a bittersweet moment for both Reid and Irving. While they will be reunited on the field, as Kansas City is set to face Dallas, they are now on opposite teams. Even worse for Reid? The player he helped get a start in the NFL will be looking to devour his quarterback all day long.
