The Dallas Cowboys are going to parade a new-look wide receiving unit next season. Gone are the likes of Dez Bryant and Brice Butler. The receiving corps is also now under the tutelage of Sanjay Lal, who takes over Derek Dooley as Dallas’ new wide receivers coach.

These changes have prompted some observers to dismiss the competence of the Cowboys’ current set of wideouts. Cole Beasley recognizes that Dallas’ receiving unit is not on par with the top groups in the league, but he’s not about to let people from ignoring them, per Jane Slater of the NFL Network.

“I feel like we’re being written off because they’re different. We don’t have the typical big, tall receivers who’s going to go up and get fade balls all the time. But we got guys who can do a lot of other things –guys who can run. It’s not going to be any worse or better. It’s going to be different.”

Save for Terrance Williams, all of Dallas’ top four receivers last season are no longer with the team. Bryant was released by Dallas back in April, Butler has signed with the Arizona Cardinals, and Jason Witten is now enjoying retirement. Williams, meanwhile, had some trouble off the field when he was arrested for a DUI back in May, so he’s not exactly fit to be a leader of his group.

It may be up to Beasley to step up and be one of the main leaders of the unit. He'll be aided downfield by newcomers in the forms of Allen Hurns, Deonte Thompson, Tavon Austin, and rookie Michael Gallup, who was selected in the third round in this year’s NFL Draft.

Last season, Beasley recorded 36 receptions and converted them into 314 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
