Is the situation between Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys about to turn ugly?

Prescott is set to be a free agent this March, and the general consensus is that the Cowboys will ultimately sign him to a lucrative long-term deal, but is there a chance that doesn't happen?

There is always the possibility that Dallas can slap a franchise tag on Prescott, but if the Cowboys do go that route, Prescott isn't making any promises about showing up for offseason workouts.

“We’ll get to that when we get to that,” Prescott said, according to David Moore of The Dallas Morning News. “I look forward to talking to my agents and when that [tag] comes to play, the direction that we’ll go. Until that’s a reality, I won’t worry about it.”

Prescott added that he won't be spending much time in Dallas over the coming weeks and months regardless of what ends up happening with his contract.

The 26-year-old added that he is “a little disappointed” that the two sides have not yet reached an agreement. Remember: discussions initially began last offseason.

It's hard to imagine the Cowboys not paying up to keep Prescott. The quarterback position is the most difficult one to fill in all of sports, and when you have a good one like Prescott, you should probably hold on to him at all costs.

Prescott is coming off of a 2019 campaign in which he threw for 4,902 yards, 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while completing 65.1 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 99.7, the best season of his career to date.

However, Dallas failed as a group, going just 8-8 and missing the playoffs.
