Former Dallas Cowboys safety Barry Church may not be returning to the franchise right now, despite speculation that he could be joining the team for the stretch run.

Church was surprisingly released by Jacksonville Jaguars several days ago, which came shortly after he lost his starting job to rookie safety Ronnie Harrison.

So, with Church now on the market and some teams in need of a veteran defensive back, it would make sense that the Cowboys would be a possible landing spot.

But will that actually happen?

Here's the latest on Church possibly returning to Dallas, courtesy of David Moore of the Dallas Morning News:

The Cowboys haven't ruled out a return by safety Barry Church but have no intention of bringing him back at this time, sources said.

Moore also gave a few more details on the current situation and the approach from the Cowboys' front office:

Since Church knows the Cowboys' system, club officials have discussed whether to bring him back for depth heading into their expected postseason appearance. But sources said the decision has been made to wait.

Depth is important when it comes to making a run through the playoffs, so adding Church wouldn't exactly be a terrible idea.

However, it looks like the team will wait for now to see how things progress during the final few weeks of the regular season.

Next up for the Cowboys is a clash with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday before hitting the road for a matchup with the New York Giants in Week 17.
