The Dallas Cowboys have done what they can to avoid too much turnover to their roster this offseason. They are hoping to fill another void through the 2020 NFL Draft.

The retirement of center Travis Frederick has dealt a major blow to the offensive line. According to NBC Sports‘ Peter King on “Football Morning in America”, the Cowboys could be looking to replace him with Michigan center Cesar Ruiz:

“[The 17th pick]’s too high for a center,” said one personnel wag, “but they love the Michigan center (Cesar Ruiz), and they could trade down a few spots and still be sure of getting him.” Interesting: a plug-and-play heir to Travis Frederick.

The prospect of the Cowboys netting Ruiz would be a major addition to their offensive line. Of course, it remains to be seen if he will still be on the board at No. 17.

Ruiz has been pegged as one of the best interior offensive lineman in his class. There are a number of teams ahead of Dallas that will be looking to secure a bonafide starting center. As a result, they may be forced to part ways with some draft capital in order to trade up.

Ruiz could potentially have some big shoes to fill if the Cowboys are successfully able to bring him in as Frederick's replacement. The restrictions placed on travel in response to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) has also prevented them from doing their due diligence in person. Regardless, it will be interesting to see if they are willing to pull the trigger on a deal to move up.
