The general consensus is that the Dallas Cowboys will re-sign wide receiver Amari Cooper this offseason, and according to Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys already met with Cooper's agents at the Scouting Combine on Thursday.

Cooper has been very open about his desire to return to Dallas, but things might be about to get complicated due to the new CBA that could be on its way to being implemented.

The reason is because the current CBA allows teams to use both the franchise tag and the transition tag on impending free agents. If the new CBA is given the okay by the NFL Players Association, clubs will only be able to use one tag, which could make things a bit dicey for a Cowboys club that wants to retain both Cooper and quarterback Dak Prescott.

“It removes a very strategic thing for us, and that is we only have one (tag) — we lose the transition,” said Jones. “Strategically, that was really thought of a lot because with our negotiations with Dak and our negotiations with Cooper. … It’s what it is. We just have to figure out a way to do it.”

That's why Dallas is pushing to lock Cooper up to a new deal before he can hit free agency on March 18.

Cooper is coming off of a 2019 campaign in which he battled through nagging injuries, but still played in every game and finished with 79 receptions for 1,189 yards and eight touchdowns en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

Dallas initially acquired the 25-year-old in a midseason trade with the Oakland Raiders in 2018.

Cooper has earned four Pro Bowl selections since entering the NFL in 2015.
