Dallas Cowboys safety Xavier Woods suffered a high-ankle sprain during his team's win over the Washington Redskins on Sunday and is expected to miss four-to-six weeks, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Woods has been an integral piece of the Cowboys' impressive defense over the first couple of games of the season, logging 17 tackles and a forced fumble in Dallas' two wins.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Louisiana Tech, was originally selected by the Cowboys in the sixth round (191st pick overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He appeared in 16 contests during his rookie campaign, registering 40 tackles, an interception, and a fumble recovery. Then, the following year, Woods participated in 14 games as a full-time starter, finishing with 56 tackles, a couple of picks, a forced fumble, and nine passes defended.

Woods spent four years at Louisiana Tech, arriving at the school in 2013. He made an immediate impact during his freshman season, totaling 61 tackles and three tackles for loss.

He broke out during his sophomore year, racking up 71 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, a sack, six interceptions, three forced fumbles, seven passes defended, and a couple of defensive touchdowns.

Woods continued his impressive play in his junior and senior campaigns, and over the course of his four-year NCAA career, he recorded 14 interceptions and six forced fumbles.

The Cowboys have looked like one of the best teams in the NFL over the first couple of weeks and will play host to the lowly Miami Dolphins next Sunday before heading on the road to battle the Drew Brees-less New Orleans Saints on Sept. 29.
