The Dallas Cowboys are sticking with Jason Garrett as their head coach this season. That’s despite the fact that they missed the postseason last year, the fifth time they’ve done so in seven full seasons under him.

Former Cowboys wideout Terrell Owens recently questioned why the Cowboys have persisted with Garrett despite his spotty track record. And now, another Cowboys legend in Darren Woodson has come out and said Garrett will lose his job if he fails to lead the Cowboys to the playoffs again this year.

“Jason has his work cut out for him,” Woodson said to Mike Doocy of KDFW-TV FOX4 Dallas (per the Dallas Morning News). “He's going to have to win some games — I think they have to get into the playoffs for him to survive and keep his job. That's the expectation that Jerry Jones has Stephen Jones has — it's that this team… they feel like it's a playoff football team. And they put all the onus on the head coach to get the job done. So yeah. If you're asking whether this is a make-or-break season, absolutely.”

It will certainly be understandable if the Cowboys finally do move on from Garrett if they go another year without playoff football. While Dallas lost two key figures in Dez Bryant and Jason Witten this offseason without directly replacing them, it doesn’t change the fact that the expectations for the Cowboys are just higher than other teams.

Garrett hasn't consistently been able to meet those expectations, but he has to soon. With Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, an elite offensive line, as well as a deep defensive line, the Cowboys still have the tools to be successful this season. It will be on Garrett to get the best out of all those pieces and get the team back to the postseason. Or else, he likely won’t be back in 2019.
